New Student Guide ~ Welcome!

Take a few minutes to

prepare for a class with us!

We want to make sure that your first visit with us is safe and enjoyable. The following information will serve as a guide to help you prepare for your first class and hopefully answer any questions you might have prior to class. If you need more guidance than is offered here, please don't hesitate to contact us. We are here to help you get started. Remember the hardest part to getting starting is walking through the studio's door!

Getting Started

Check out our current class schedule and find a class that meets your needs and schedule.  For more information and to register for the class you are interested in, click on the link INFO & REGISTER Box for that class.  SpringStone Yoga is a collective team of instructors that sets their own rates and handles their own registrations individually for each of their classes.

What Class to Take?

All of our classes are appropriate for beginners. If you need advice or have questions, please feel free to contact us and we can help to point you in the right direction.

Before Class

Clothes: Wear comfortable, stretchy clothing that is not too loose. It should allow a full range of movement including twisting and bending. Our studio has a restroom to change clothes if needed and cubbies to store your belongings.

Bring: Your yoga mat and water. We do have free mats to borrow and all other yoga props for your convenience. For hygiene reasons, we HIGHLY recommend and encourage students who continue to practice to purchase their own mat either in town or at the studio. Avoid: Strong perfume, essentials oils, cologne, and other scents. Eating & Drinking: Don’t eat for an hour before your class. A little water is okay, but too much liquid can be uncomfortable.

Arriving

When you arrive for your first class, our entrance is on the side of the building and there is ample parking  behind the building, beside the building and street side on 3rd Street. Our studio is peacefully placed on the 2nd floor. When you enter the side entrance on the lower level, pick up the lobby phone and buzz SpringStone to gain access to the elevator to the 2nd floor. On your for visit, please try to arrive 15 minutes early. This will allow adequate time for you to fill out a new student form and gives the instructor time to set you up for your first class.  Please let your instructor know if you have any injuries, limitations, or concerns, or are pregnant so they can adjust the practice for you.

Yoga is practiced in bare feet for traction and safety. Shoes are not allowed on the practice floor and should be left out in the reception room. Please turn off electronic cell phones. If you are on call medical, please have your phone on vibrate. Please enter the practice space quietly to respect other students that may be using the time before class to center or relax.

During Class

Yoga practice typically involves centering/meditation, a series of physical postures that are coordinated with full breathing and a mental focus on the present moment, and relaxation.  There are many modifications available for the physical poses to make them more or less challenging depending on your needs.

Remember it is not a competition with others or yourself. Challenge yourself but don’t push too hard – yoga should never be painful. Respect that we are all unique individuals, avoid competing with or comparing yourself to other students or the teacher.  Rather, let the practice be your practice. In the beginning you may want to practice in the back of the room so that you can observe other students- they'll help you get a feel for the different types of poses and class flow.

Do your best and enjoy!  Give your self time to adjust and learn this amazing practice. It is a lifelong practice of progressive change and there’s no need to do it all on the first visit.

After Class

Please return any borrowed mats or supplies neatly back to the prop area.  If you borrowed a mat, please clean it with the wipes provided and fold it instead of rolling it after it is completely dry.  If you have any questions after the class please let the instructor know.
